Lot 737-738 levels: both into neck; both recorked, capsuled, and labelled by the Château in 1992
A magnificent vintage, picked in great heat, the most beautifully balanced of all the great pre-phylloxera vintages. Lafite said to be the most perfect claret of the vintage and finest ever. Interesting to note that in the early 1870's, the 1864 Lafite appears in the Windsor Castle cellarbook of the period. When the Lafite had been consumed, Queen Victoria's suppliers substituted Latour of the same vintage!
Tasted over half a dozen times, last in September 1995 (also recorked by Lafite) still sweet and rich. MB
