A ballet dress, the high-waisted three-quarter length dress of ivory silk chiffon, the boned bodice ruched and trimmed at the neckline with a band of gilt braid leaves set with imitation pearls and amber stones and a central medallion of rhinestones and imitation aquamarines, the waistband of dark brown net and two bands of gold braid and lace similarly decorated with imitation pearls and gems, the off-the-shoulder chiffon sleeves slashed and embroidered with gold braid in the form of fronds, the skirt decorated with large opalescent sequins, with plain cotton label inscribed in green ballpoint pen Fonteyn Raymonda (writing indistinct); and a headdress, the gilt braid tiara in a cluster and scroll design decorated with imitation pearls, pastel coloured pearlized beads and multi-coloured rhinestones; accompanied by two corresponding press stills, one of Fonteyn dancing the other of her chatting with Barbara Bittnerowna and Witold Gruca at a rehearsal for a Gala Matinee in aid of the Royal Academy of Dancing, November 24th, 1959, largest -- 10x8in. Lot Essay

Sir Frederick Ashton's adaptation of Rêve d'Amour from Glazunov's Raymonda was later retitled Scène d'Amour. Fonteyn danced a pas de deux with Somes in this production, once at The Royal Opera House and nine times on tour.
