Ballet Shoes
A pair of pink satin ballet shoes by Freed, London, the soles stamped with manufacturer's details and size 4, one sole additionally inscribed in an unidentified hand in blue ballpoint pen Fonteyn, both soles initialled in black felt pen, probably in Fonteyn's hand, either L or R to denote left or right foot, and S B to denote the ballet Sleeping Beauty, the left sole additionally initialled G twice, II and BAY to denote Giselle and La Bayadère, the latter scored out, the right shoe additionally initialled G and F, also I and II (well worn); and a book by QUILLER-COUCH, Arthur & DULAC, Edmund (illustrator). The Sleeping Beauty and other fairy tales, from the old French, London: Hodder & Stoughton, [1910], 4°, engraved title, 30 mounted coloured plates by Edmund Dulac, original red morocco covers decorated with pictoral gilt decoration, spine lettered and decorated in gilt (joints and edges lightly rubbed), first trade edition, signature in black ballpoint pen Margot Fonteyn on front free end paper (some light spotting to preliminaries and hinges cracked) (2)
