The urn-and-plinth form seen on these andirons illustrates a regional preference favored by Philadelphia-area braziers of the late eighteenth century. More unusual, however, is the engraved and chased eagle decoration on the plinths. For a pair of similar andirons with varying eagle motifs, see Ginsburg & Levy advertisement, Antiques (August 1950), p. 163.
