WILHELMINA, Queen of the Netherlands. Large Christmas card with autograph inscription signed, 1947. 12¾ x 12½ in., a large color print of a characteristic rustic landscape with windmill, on original mount, framed. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED in ink in lower margin: "My very best wishes for a Happy Christmas and New Year, Wilhelmina 1947."
Ties between the Roosevelts and the Dutch Queen were quite strong; FDR greatly admired Wilhelmina and she and her family were frequent guests at both the White House and Hyde Park. The largest foreign library for the study of Roosevelt, the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Study Center, opened in Middleburg, Holland in 1985, as a European extension of the Roosevelt Library in Hyde Park. Exhibited: Franklin D. Roosevelt Centennial Exhibition, 1982.
