Painted in gold, red, and green lines, depicting a ferocious Yamadharmaraja wearing a five-skull diadem, striding in alidhasana on a dharmachakra and a weapon wheel over a lotus base with scrolling tips, holding a spear and a heart to his chest with suspended arteries, with an offering of the Five Senses placed before him, consecrated on reverse with fingerprints and two palms

Lot Essay

Yama Dharmaraja is a wisdom deity protector of the father class (method) of Anuttaryoga Tantra associated with the practices of the Vajra Bhairava Tantra. This thangka of Yama Dharmaraja depicts one of a retinue likely from a set of nine paintings.
