As Asano Shugo and Timothy Clark write, Wakatsuru was of yobidashi rank in the brothel of Wakamatsuya Toemon in Kyomachi 1-chome. Two variant printings are known. In one, the names of the courtesan and her kamuro have been carved out of the key-block and just "Wakatsuru" written by hand in the top-right corner (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston). In the other, the blocks have been recarved so as to cover her bare leg with the kimono, and to print the names "Shizuka of the Tamaya, Ikuyo, Isono" in the top right corner.
