Probably Umbria, late 18th century, decoration refreshed
The simulated mottled green marble rectangular top with molded edge above a pair of doors enclosing a shelf, each door front painted with trailing grotesques centered by a nymphs mask below a laurel wreath and cornered by nymphs, the base re-supported
38in. (96.5cm.) high, 50½i. (128.5cm.) wide, 24in. (61cm.) deep

Lot Essay

A similarly-decorated Umbrian cabinet with painted arabesque decoration is recorded in the collection of Count Leonardo di Serego Alighieri is illustrated in G. Cantelli, Il Mobile Umbro, Milan, 1973, p. 162, pl. 180. A closely-related small side cabinet sold in these Rooms 31 March, 2000, lot 48.
