A Very Fine German Mail Shirt (Haubergeon)
Late 14th or Early 15th Century
Of riveted iron rings, except for borders of latten rings at the hem and cuffs, made thicker over the chest and back, shaped to the body and thigh length with straight lower edge 2in. (5.1cm.) higher at the front than at the back, short sleeves, and square-cut collar with small central front slit, under the right arm a plain latten ring, perhaps intended for a maker's name or a talismanic inscription
