A Rare German Mitten Gauntlet For The Left Hand
Circa 1450
With a boxed main plate comprising a short, slightly flaring cuff with turned rear edge and a central pair of point-holes, pinched in at the wrist and then widening to cover the metacarpus, articulated knuckle-plate (replaced) with horizontal rib, and single finger-plate with rounded end (thumb-defence missing), decorated throughout with close-set tranverse fluting, and with rows of holes at the cuff and elsewhere for attaching a lining-glove (missing), the surface rust- pitted throughout (a few small rust holes and two riveted internal patches)
