A Fine German (Nuremberg) 'Maximilian' Mitten Gauntlet For The Right Hand
Circa 1515-20
With short cuff made in two parts, the inner one much narrower, hinged together on the inside and with a hole and pin fastening on the outside, wide double recessed border, struck with the Nuremberg mark and two maker's marks, and turned and roped edge, articulated by four narrow lames to a broad metacarpal plate, narrow knuckle-plate embossed with a roped rib, and four articulated finger-plates, the front edge with recessed roped border, and hinged thumb-defence of four plates, the main surfaces fluted throughout
