Lot Essay

Born and brought up in Calcutta, Prosanto Roy was greatly influenced by the vibrant life of the city. He studied art under the Tagores and for nearly thirty years was a frequent visitor to their household. Although he drew inspiration from all of the Tagores, this work in the Bengal School wash technique is most closely paralleled to Abanindranath's style.
