A fine and decorative brass and ferrous metal 5in. gauge model of a 4-4-0 locomotive and tender originally built by the Hinkley Locomotive Co. Boston, for the Boston and Albany Rail Road and modelled by G.E. Whitney
with riveted copper firetube boiler, with fittings including level test cocks, regulator, safety and whistle valves. Chassis details include brass bar frames stamped 1876, twin outside cylinders with inside Stephenson's link reverse, valve chest lubricators, cab controlled drain cocks, double bar type crosshead guides, wedged and bolted motion bearings, sanding box and pipes, crosshead driven feed pump with expansion dome and pipework, flangeless leading coupled wheels, splashers, whistle, bell, footboards, cowcatcher, paraffin headlamp, steps and hand irons and other details. Tender details include twin four-wheel bogies with brass wheels and springs, wooden floor, water tank and dummy water valve, the whole finished in polished, lacquered brightwork, red and black -- 13½ x 46¼in. (33.7 x 117.5cm.) Showtrack, display table. Framed historical note. A coloured lithograph of a Hinkley 4-4-0 locomotive and tender variously lettered Hinkley; The Hinkley Locomotive Works Boston and H.L.W. and finished in appropriate colours, shown within an oval 'frame' the corners monogrammed H.L.W. -- 16¾x 27in. (42.5 x 68.5cm.). Mounted framed and glazed.
