A fine late 16th-Century Italian water-gilt brass armillary sphere,
unsigned, the central axis with unmarked earthball, lunar disc on a moveable ring and solar disc on a fixed ring, held within umarked polar and tropic circles, with equatorial ring with punched scale divisions 10°-350°, and ecliptic band with divisions 0-30 for each house of the Zodiac, with finely engraved symbols, the meridian circle divided in four quadrants and graduated 0°-90° in both directions in each quadrant, the horizon with punched graduations for days of the houses of the Zodiac with engraved symbols and names, and for the days of the month with engraved names, further engraved with eight wind directions in Italian, raised on four rectangular section quadrant supports to a baluster-turned column and circular plinth base -- 14in. (35.6cm.) high
