The moulded rectangular hinged top with two holes to each side and a later detachable reading-slope enclosing a double-ratchet mechanism above a pair of writing-slides to the sides and a frieze-drawer, above a kneehole with an adjustable sliding cupboard enclosing one shelf, flanked on each side by four short graduated drawers, one side with four further short graduated drawers, the back with five simulated graduated drawers, flanked by panels, the sides with carrying-handles, on a plinth base with wooden castors, the left writing-slide inscribed in ink onto the wood 'William Coyte', the back later veneered, the ratchet mechanism replaced
