Lot Essay

This sofa, designed in the French manner, relates to a design published in A. Hepplewhite & Co.'s The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, London, 1st ed., 1788, pl. 25. A similar giltwood sofa, part of a suite, was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 29 June 1978, lot 17.
