The breakarch case with waisted pediment surmounted by a figure of an angel blowing a trumpet, its base with red silk backed brass sound frets to three sides, with foliate cast flaming urn finials to each corner, with brass Corinthian coolumns to each recessed angle, foliate cast handles arched silk backed brass sound frets to the sides, on stepped and moulded base with cast mask and cherub mounts to the front and sides and on foliate scroll feet, the silvered dial with brass Roman chapter ring, signed in the centre BOXELL BRIGHTON, two subsidiary dials to the arch above for Silent/Westminster/Chime on 9 gongs and seven tune selection (Home Sweet Home/Jerusalem the Golden/God Bless the Prince-Wales/Bonnie Dundee/The Harp that Once Thro' Tara's halls/Bay of Biscay/Auld Lang Syne), with slow/fast regulation above XII, with five further subsidiary dials below the chapter ring for day of week, date, moonphase, month and leap year cycle, the massive four train chain fusee movement with dead beat escapement, with music on sixteen bells via sixteen hammers, 6¾in. pinned musical cylinder, chimes on eight gongs and hour strike on further gong (one hammer detached), with repeat signature and number 4575 to the backplate -- 47½in. (121cm.) high
