An unusual Victorian mahogany stick barometer, circa 1864
Of polygonal form, with stepped and moulded top, the front with arched glazed aperture to the top revealing mercury tube and Vernier scale with side adjustment, the trunk below with silvered plaque signed R. SMITH ACCRINGTON 1864 within a moulded frame, flanked by satinwood thermometer scales, each inscribed WARRANTED CORRECT and one R.D.SMITH, both with brass cistern covers pierced with a star design, the bottom of the trunk with inlaid borders to panels centred by inlaid lozenges, with ripple mouldings above and below (one section lacking), and further mouldings above forming three triangular designs -- 41in. (104cm.) high
