An English mahogany quarter-chiming longcase clock
The case with breakarch hood with later fretted cresting flanked by brass ball and eagle finials, outset fluted and brass-capped front columns and with wavy slats to the rear, rectangular side panels now covered with meshed wire, the breakarch trunk door with moulded frame and bone lozenge escutcheon, flanked by chamfered angles with chevron inlays, with conforming inlays to the plinth (split) with later stepped base and raised on bracket feet, the 12in. wide brass dial with mask and foliate spandrels to a silvered chapter ring with stylised fleur-de-lys half hour markers and lozenge half quarter hour markers, tune selection lever by III, the matted centre with subsidiary silvered seconds ring and signed on a silvered plaque Thomas Pain London, with silvered disc to the arch inscribed TEMPUS FUGIT, the three train movement with anchor escapement, with hour strike on bell and quarter chimes on eight nested bells; composite, with case, dial and movement associated, case first quarter 19th century -- 89½in.
