A George III oak and mahogany longcase clock, late 18th/early 19th century
The case with brass-capped swan neck pediment centred by a later cresting, outset brass-capped and fluted columns to the front (glass lacking), the mahogany-banded trunk door with wavy top and flanked by three-quarter length fluted pilasters, resting on line inlaid blocks, with conforming decoration to the canted angles of the plinth, with applied mahogany-banded panel, raised on bracket feet, the 13in. wide white dial with gilt entwined scroll spandrels, Roman chapters with Arabic five minutes and dotted minute track, the centre painted with flowers and with subsidiary seconds ring, arched date aperture, signed Jno. Ha...es WRENHAM, black painted steel hands, the arch with painted rolling moon alternating with scenes of a ship and a cottage, with Osborne falseplate to the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement -- 89in.
