A William IV mahogany longcase clock, circa 1830
The case with brass rosette capped swan neck pediment to the hood, also with brass ball and spires flanking a ball and eagle finial, outset plain brass-capped front columns, with short arched trunk door with ebony and satinwood line inlay and bone lozenge escutcheon, flanked by three-quarter length pilasters with ebony line inlays, above plinth on bracket feet, the 12½in. wide white dial with spandrels painted with figures emblematic of the continents, the white centre with Roman chapters and subsidiary seconds and date rings, signed Ja.s black Kirkaldy, brass hands, the dial painted with scene of Girl at Fountain (dial with some repainting), pinned directly to the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement -- 83in. (211cm.) high
