An early Victorian Scottish oak and mahogany longcase clock, mid 19th century
The case with brass-capped swan neck pediment to the hood, outset reeded columns to the front and reeded slats to the rear, with mahogany panel to the top of the trunk and lozenge inlays, the trunk door also with moulded edge and wavy top, flanked by three-quarter length reeded pilasters, on plain plinth (split to centre), raised on bracket feet (lacking rear feet), the 13½in. wide white dial with painted shell and flower spandrels to a Roman chapter ring, the centre with subsidiary seconds and date rings, signed J.N GRAHAM MOFFAT (dial with retouching), the arch painted with scene of a shepherdess with a dog sitting beside a field of sheep, brass hands, pinned directly to the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement -- 90½in. (229cm.) high
