An English mahogany longcase clock with musical movement
The case with associated pagoda pediment to the hood (not illustrated) above breakarch cornice, with brass ball and spire finials, cut and gilt brass sound frets above the hood door,rectangular glazed side panels, with brass stop-fluted columns with cast gilt brass Corinthian capitals to th rear slats, the trunk with breakarch door with moulded frame, flanked by three-quarter length brass stop-fluted pilasters with Corinthian capitals, resting on satinwood and ebony line inlaid blocks, above plinth with quatreform panel and later stepped base, the 13½in. wide brass dial with female mask and scroll spandrels to a 3in. wide silvered chapter ring (possibly later), with fleur-de-lys half hour markers and lozenge half quarter hour markers, the matted centre with subsidiary silvered seconds ring and date aperture with engraved border, with later and black painted hands, the arch with silvered arch inscribed with a selection of twelve tunes (Masqurad Minuet/Bright aurelia/a Spanish Jigg/y princes March/Shadey Bowers/a Song Tune/3 Genralls Health/a Minuet No 1/BlackEyd Susan/the Rummer/Britans Strike Home/a Minuet No 3), with subsidiary dials below for Strike/Silent and Chime/No Chime, each engraved with flowerheads, with stylised leaf engraving to their centres and foliate scrolls flanking them, signed on a silvered plaque between Fromanteel LONDON, the substantial ten ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and hour strike on central bell (lacking), with music on thirteen further bells (one lacking) via twenty five hammers, with 15½in. long musical cylinder, on later seatboard; case associated to dial and movement, case late 18th century, dial and movement circa 1725, with music work adapted in 19th century -- 95¾in. (243cm.) high to top of breakarch
