John Pearson was a founding member of the Guild of Handicraft in 1888. Already trained as a metalworker it is believed he taught himself the repoussé technique through studying examples of medieval ware in the British Museum. He resigned in 1892, working for a short time at the metalworking class established by J.D.Mackenzie in Newlyn.
