Lot Essay

Charles Robert Ashbee saw the galleon as The Craft of the Guild a symbol for the education of the workers at the Guild. Pearson who produced this piece before his split with the Guild used this motif and that of grotesque birds, creatures and fish to decorate his repoussé metalwork.
