2o (295 x 186 mm.) Collation: A6 (title-page, A gli lettori, Proemio, blank) B-Z, AA-ZZ6 AAA8 BBB-FFF6 GGG8 HHH, III6 KKK6+1 LLL6 (text, Errori scorsi, Registro). With a duplicate copy of the first gathering. Woodcut title border, numerous woodcut initials. (A few marginal repairs, some occasional soiling, but generally clean.) Contemporary vellum from a large leaf of a late 12th century Latin Bible (erased on one side) and from smaller fragments in Caroline miniscule (ca. 11th-early 12th century), 14th century Italian endpapers with bow and arrow watermark, remains of ties (some wear and soiling). Provenance: Contemporary titling on front cover; contemporary notes on terminal blank.

FIRST VERNACULAR EDITION OF THE STATUTES OF LUCCA IN THE VERNACULAR, and one of a very few books published in Lucca to this date. Giovanni Battista Phaello was a Bolognese printer whom the city commissioned to produce this edition, along with an edition in Latin (reprinting the edition of 1490), published the same year.
