SEAL: Large privy seal of Charles II, in tan wax (diameter 147 mm. (6 in.), obverse depicting the enthroned king flanked by falcons, lion and unicorn bearing heraldioc banners, two classically robed women at his side, two cherbim holding a crown above him) pendant on a wide vellum tag, very small hole in center, otherwise fine.

A FINE EXAMPLE OF CHARLES II'S PRIVY SEAL ON A DOCUMENT RELATING TO WESTMINSTER ABBEY. The King grants to John North a canonship or prebendary of the Abbey Church of St. Peter at Westminster, left vacant by the death of John Doughty. Westminster Abbey remains to the present day a "royal peculiar," its organisation and activities under the direct control of the monarch.
