Rams such as the one depicted here were used to fight against bulls, lions or other rams in contests that were put on for popular entertainment in the maidans such as the maidan-i shah in Isfahan, where Reza lived. The turban suggests that this was a prized animal. This piece displays Reza's interest and ability in observing and capturing the scenes of everyday life in Isfahan.
