The colophon gives the information that the manuscript was prepared by 'one who encourages people of excellence', the name is partly obscured by gold paint, but appears to read Mirza Muhammad Husayn Shirazi. He may have been a person of importance, and some means, given that he commissioned famous artists for the binding, the text and the paintings, all of very high quality. As a Sufi, he may have chosen not to use his titles.
The scribe'Abd al-Wahhab was the son of a famous poet called Muhammad Shafi' Vesal who died in 1846.
The fine lacquer binding is by Najaf 'Ali or Aqa Najaf as he was also known, one of the most important artists of the period who specialised in painting on lacquer. He often signed himself Ya Shah Najaf as here, in honour of the Imam 'Ali who is buried at Najaf. He died circa 1863.
The miniature on the flyleaf may be the work of Abu'l Hasan Ghaffari, court painter for Nasir al-Din Shah.
