The two gold lacquer boards painted with scenes of courtly life, one with a young prince attended by musicians and dancers in an interior, the other with a young prince seated on a carpet in a garden watched by ladies, the doublures red with central black medallion containing gold floral motifs, small areas of restoration

This is a very rare example of a Safavid lacquer binding. The scenes are typical of manuscript illustration of the first half of the 16th century in Shiraz.
