Lot Essay

Animal decoration is very rare in this type of pottery. Another example is in the Ashmolean Museum, but showing a fish issuing leafy sprays from its mouth rather than the present bird (Fehérvári, G.: Islamic Pottery, A Comprehensive Study Based on The Barlow Collection, London, 1973, p.45, no.16).
