The underside carved with medallions on a ground of floral interlace, the sides engraved with cartouches of elegant nasta'liq interrupted by floral medallions, the upper surface with a star-shaped cartouche with a similar inscription, original brass mounts and chain

Lot Essay

Around the body are two distiches from a ghazal of Hafez. The inscription on top is another distich.
The kashkul is signed: "the work of Mulla Muhammad Malik, 1281" (1864-5 AD).
