A SAFAVID GOLD DAMASCENED FINIAL
Persia, late 17th Century
Originally forming part of an upper border around a shrine, the flat steel plate of trefoil outline on spreading base with small central semicircular depression, the face damascened in gold with finely spiralling tendrils issuing floral sprays around the elegant thuluth inscription, the lower section similarly damascened with palmettes and feathery vine, attachment loop above and similar lug below, metal block base
7 3/8in. (18.6cm.) high
