AN EGYPTIAN LINEN GESSO-PAINTED CARTONNAGE FRAGMENT FROM A SARCOPHAGUS
LATE NEW KINGDOM, CIRCA 1200-950 B.C.
Upper register: showing the deceased being led into the presence of the seated Osiris, and standing protecting Isis, with a table of offerings and lotus flowers in front
Middle register: with scene of a winged uraeus wearing a white crown protecting a wedjat-eye, with deified mummified figures standing on either side of a djed-pillar, crowned with ram's horns, double plumes and sun disc
Lower register: showing a hill, wedjat-eye and sun disc, obelisk and a Hathor, mistress of the West, cow standing in a papyrus marsh, to the right a cow-headed goddess standing in a sycamore tree making drink and food offerings, a column to the left of the scenes is inscribed with hieroglyphs invoking offerings and a sweet-smelling north breeze for the deceased, yellow and blue pigments, mounted on perspex
