A SYRIAN HAEMATITE CYLINDER SEAL
CIRCA 1800-1600 B.C.
A seated goddess holding a cup being approached by a worshipper holding a crook, between them the standing figure of the messenger god Usmu with two faces and raised hands, behind the seated goddess another standing deity holding a mace and a scimitar-sword, a solar-crescent and human-head in the field; an Akkadian black and white veined stone cylinder seal with two heroes grappling an inverted bull, another group of a rearing lion attacking an inverted gazelle, cuneiform inscription with the owner's name "Warad-Ashhal", circa 2300-2200 B.C.; a Persian bitumen cylinder seal with a horse with man behind holding a whip(?), a figure in front leading it by a rope, a smaller galloping horse above, fillers include a rosette, star, monkey and a bird, circa 1200-800 B.C.; a Neo-Babylonian brown and white agate upper half of a barrel-shaped cylinder bead, showing two confronting seated winged sphinxes with an incense burner(?) between them; and a Persian chalcedony cylinder seal with a worshipper before an altar on which are a triangular-headed spade of the god Marduk, and two wedges, the symbols of the god Nabû, a winged solar-disc above, in the field a leaping gazelle and a star, both circa 800-600 B.C.
