The rectangular stand in the form of a miniature altar table, the table-top constructed of a single panel of wood joined with additional flared flanges on the either side, all above plain aprons set with slightly inward tapering supports, each pierced with a ruyi-shaped central motif

Lot Essay

Another very similar example included in the exhibition, Arts for the Scholar's Studio, 1986, is illustrated in the Catalogue, The Oriental Society of Hong Kong, p. 254, no. 249; where the author suggested that this type of display stands may also have served as an occasional arm rest.
