Lot Essay

Private George Ford joined the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry from the Army Reserve in July 1882, thereby indicating earlier service. Initially posted to the 1st Battalion, he transferred that August to the 2nd Battalion and proceeded to Egypt via Gibraltar. Subsequently engaged in the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir, he returned to the Army Reserve at the end of the year.
