Lot Essay
Lieutenant John Vivian Boothby was born in Montrose, Forfarshire in 1890 and was educated at Giggleswick School, Giggleswick, Yorkshire, where he obtained the Gold Medal for athletics in the year 1907-08. Commissioned into the 3/7th Black Watch in April 1915, he was wounded in action whilst serving with the 1/7th Black Watch on 1.6.1916 at Neuville St. Vaast. From August 1918 until the end of the War he served in British, German and Portuguese East Africa, and latterly with the King's African Rifles in Somaliland.
