Lot Essay

Lieutenant-Colonel Broderick Edward Middleton Newland was born in August 1878 and entered the Indian Medical Service as a Lieutenant in September 1905. Advanced to Captain in September 1908 and to Major in November 1915, he served in Egypt between 1914-16 and in Iraq between 1916-18. Newland, who may have served in the Gallipoli operations, remained a Regular at the end of hostilities and attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in March 1925.
