Hiscock was serving in the 2nd Battalion, The Queen's Regiment, when awarded the Royal Humane Society's Medal under the following circumstances: 'At great personal risk, these two men rescued Private Doyle from drowning at Dinapore, India on 1 February 1891' (R.H.S. Case No. 26617 refers).
