2nd Lieutenant Arthur John Tweedie first entered the employ of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force in early July 1917 and was Mentioned in Despatches by General Allenby for the period March to September 1918 - interestingly he appears under the 'Miscellaneous' heading and as 'Mr. A.J. Tweedie' (London Gazette 22.1.1919 refers).

Tweedie had earlier won the Royal Humane Society's Medal, while employed in Egypt as a Colliery Manager, under the following circumstances: 'At great personal risk, he rescued W.J. Blackhouse from drowning at Suez on 29 August 1891' (R.H.S. Case No. 25768 refers).
