A NEEDLEWORK BOOK BINDING
ENGLISH, 1638
The Holy Bible: containing the Olde Testement and The New, title within woodcut border , with woodcut Royal coat-of-arms on verso of the title, printed in double columns, with library mark JJNPR, printed by Robert Barker ... by The Assignes of John Bill, 1638 [S.T.C. 2329.6; Darlow & Moule, Herbert 527] in contemporary binding of ivory satin worked in red and green silk, front and back with vignettes of David holding the head of Goliath, the hair and tree in mosswork within a silver raised work frame, the spandrels with silver putti, their wings mixed with pink and blue silk, the whole powdered with spangles, the spine embroidered with pink and blue violas and pink gillyflowers, g.e. --6 x 3½in. (15 x 8cm.)
