Album of 50 hand-coloured albumen prints. Circa 1889. Each approximately 8 x 10 in. (20.2 x 15.4 cm.) or the reverse. The majority numbered in the negative, mounted back-to-back, some with tissue guards, mounts with typed titles on paper labels, inside cover annotated A. Cus[...],Yokohama 16th April 1889 in pencil, black lacquer boards with ivory, mother-of-pearl and gilt onlay depicting peasants by a bridge.
Album size: 12½ x 15 7/8 in. (32 x 40 cm.)

Including street scenes, temples, cherry blossom, bridges, rapids, lakes and mountains in Yokahama, Fujiyama, Tokyo, Nikko, Kobe, Osaka, Nagasaki, Kyoto and other places, as well as many portraits of musicians, performers, rickshaw-pullers including a popular portrait of an officer's daughter who was thought at the time to epitomize Japanese beauty.
