A fine builder's model of a shallow draft stern wheel gunboat built for the Government of Lagos by Laird Bros., Birkenhead, 1888
built up on two decks, the upper with wheelhouse flanked by two breach loading guns with curved shields, full length canvas canopy supported on a metal framework, stayed funnel, deck rails, glazed, panelled deckhouse, companionways, aft helm, seat, and two machine guns on tripod stands and six other machine gun mounts, the lower deck with capstan, twin boilers, glazed panelled deckhouse, twin cylinder horizontal engine with centrally-mounted sterm paddle wheels mounted on the crankshaft and triple rudders. The hull, finished in pink and white with anodised and silver-plated deck fittings, is mounted on two turned anodised metal columns. Original glazed mahogany case with finials and engraved builder's plates. Measurements overall -- 20¾ x 40¼in. (52.7 x 102.3cm.)
