Blue interlaced L's mark, date letters LL for 1788, and gilder's mark for Prévost to both, the mortar also with painter's mark for Bouillat pére
Painted with loose bouquets within blue feuille-de-choux panels edged in gilt, gilt line rims

Lot Essay

The painter's mark of a capital Y is that of both M. Edmé-François and Mme Genèvieve-Louise Bouillat, husband and wife and both flower painters at the Sèvres factory, he 1758-1810 and she 1776-1798.

In a French dessert service, a punch bowl was accompanied by a mortar in which to grind the herbs that made up the potent beverage.
