An extremely unusual 19th-Century orrery, the 3-inch (7.6cm.) diameter celestial globe at the centre DELAMARCHE No 25 Rue Serpente PARIS made up of twelve coloured engraved gores and two polar calottes, laid to the ecliptic poles, the equatorial graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac, the constellations depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments in yellow on a green ground, the stars to three orders of magnitude (repaired crack around equator, some minor discolouration and rubbing) held on an elegantly cast brass column above a turning horizontal plate, printed with a flat projection of the earth, the North Pole at the centre, a pointer arranged to read off a fixed enamelled hour scale number I-XII (x2) with gilt border, around which rotates a decorative band depicting the various inhabitants of the world, half passing beneath a fixed blue and white painted sleeve entitled HEURES DE NUIT, the whole surrounded by a raised enamel ring graduated in degrees and in hours 1-24 and showing the phases of the moon with the moon figures picked out in gilt, fixed to a heavy marble plinth base, the outside edge with a movable index to read off the outer scale -- 6½in. (16.5cm.) high
