AN APULIAN POTTERY ASKOS
Circa Late 4th Century B.C.
Molded with a figure of Silenos, depicted nude, reclining across the top of the vessel, his crossed legs extended, his right arm resting along his torso and upper thigh, holding a wine-skin which falls behind his legs, resting on his left elbow, a boat-shaped vessel in his left hand which he balances on his paunchy belly, with a bald pate and long white beard, the body of the vessel with a band of laurel centered by a rosette, a ring handle behind Silenos, the sprinkler spout projecting from below his shoulder
