TWO GREEK TERRACOTTA RIDERS
Canosa, Circa Early 3rd Century B.C.
Each hollow figure once straddling a separately-made and now-missing horse, their legs spread widely apart, one fully armed in a Phrygian helmet, the cheek guards lowered, wearing a corselet with breast and back plate and greaves, the right arm raised holding a now-missing weapon, once holding the reins of the horse in the left hand, the other figure similarly positioned with his right arm raised and his left held before him, wearing a corselet and greaves, his hair rendered as a mass of large curls, both with extensive pigment preserved over white slip
