A SUMERIAN WHITE STONE CYLINDER SEAL
Early Dynastic IIIb, Circa 2500-2334 B.C.
Robustly carved with a contest scene of two groups of four, in the left group, to the right, a nude hero with spiky hair and a long beard grapples with a bull raised on its hind-legs, while a standing lion attacks it from the left, and on the far left a bull with a human face drives a sword into the lion, his face turned frontal and framed by long plaits of hair, in the right group, a bearded hero with a large head stands between two bulls with human faces, each with their heads turned frontal, a nude hero with a single large eye standing to their right, the terminal a blank inscription panel above a rearing feline attacking a rearing horned animal
