Closterman, engraved title-vignettes and headpieces after the same (light offsetting from frontispiece onto title in vol. I, inner margin of Y7v and Yzr in vol. I browned), contemporary green morocco, single gilt border on sides, flat spines lavishly decorated and ruled in gilt, red morocco lettering-pieces (spines faded, sides spotted), yellow edges. Small 4°, folding engraved frontispiece portrait, engraved topographical vignette on title, and engraved double-page pedigree (the engravings browned), contemporary gilt-panelled red morocco (spine rubbed, old stains on covers), g.e. Provenance: Gosford-Roseberry copy, with a contemporary note of purchase at "Gosford Sale 1884, lot 1460." ESTC states: "Originally issued with folded pedigree, which followed the Advertisement, pp.[9-10]; this pedigree was found to contain errors, and was corrected in some copies; Walpole apparently remained dissatisfied with it, and later removed it from the copies still on hand."
